Inom ramen för projektet Fred i Mellanöstern.nu har Palmecentret arrangerat en serie workshops och konferenser i Gaza. Det har gjorts i samarbete med University Teachers Society- Palestine ( UTS- P ), en oberoende fackförening som samlar lärare och professorer främst från Gaza. Under våren har sammanlagt åtta dialogmöten arrangerats med fokus på att ge olika aktörer en regelbunden mötesplats. Mötena har främst fokuserats till personer på Gazamensan men även inkluderat personer från Västbanken via länk. Mötena har inkluderat över 350 deltagare sammanlagt och ett antal rekommendationer som ett resultat har antagits. Dessa har främst spridits ut via arabisk media i regionen.

Som en avslutning på dessa aktiviteter samlades återigen de aktiva parterna på Gazaremsan, men också via länk en sittning från Damaskus, Nasaret, Beirut, Ramallah och Amman, för en konferens som gick under temat försoning. Flera civila organisationer, journalister, myndighetspersoner och politiker deltog under konferensen som samlade över 1000 personer bara på Gaza, samt ett stort antal deltagare över satellit från 6 olika platser i mellanöstern.

Palmecentrets delegation bestod av Viola Furubjelke, generalsekreterare, som också talade på konferensen, och Göran Färm, EU parlamentariker, samt projektansvarig Faraj Abu Iserifan. En fullständig talarlista med de antagna rekommendationerna följer enligt nedan.

Konferensen bevakades av bland andra Al Jazeera TV, Al Aqsa TV, Al Hewar TV och Al Manar TV. Även flera radiokanaler sände från konferensen som Alaqsa, Alquds, Alshaab, Alwan, Ajial, Palestine, Shams, Sawt Alarab, Almajd.

Även inför konferensen deltog arrangörerna i flera TV sända intervjuer om konferensen.

Rekommendationer antagna på konferensen

1- Participants call for an end for exciting political split and establish reconciliation under a national unified government.
2- Participants call for the reconstruction of PLO which accommodate all kinds of political fractions and guarantee the representation of the whole Palestinian people.
3- Participants call upon UTSP to continue their efforts in bridging the gap between Fateh and Hamas.
4- Fateh and Hamas speakers declared their trust and acceptance of UTSP role in the issue of dialogue.
5- A national committee led by UTSP is formed to mediate between Fateh and Hamas to reinforce the Palestinian reconciliation.
6- The participants highly appreciate Olof Palme International Center and the Sweden people support welfare of the Palestinian People.
7- The meeting of the representatives and leaders of all factions, Political movements, civil societies, intellectuals – especially the representatives of Fateh and Hamas – is a great evidence which will mark the starting point toward the reconciliation.
8- The participants called upon the international community to accept the result of the democratic experience in Palestine and protect it.
9- The participants confirmed on the necessity of generalizing the culture of forgiveness and dialogue.
10-  UTSP should start contacting the key figures on both Fateh and Hamas to help them in ending the political split.
11- The participants confirmed the necessity of the democratization of all Palestinian fractions.
12- The participants call upon the international community to end the sanction on Gaza and protect the civilian from the Israeli military attacks.
13- The participants call upon the European community to practice pressure on Israel to implement UN resolutions dealing with the Palestinian issue especially the 194 resolution.
