PEACE AND DIALOGUE
Promoting peace and dialogue – mitigating armed conflict and social tensions
The global security situation is increasingly fragile, marked by mistrust, rising tensions and ongoing conflicts. The Swedish labour movement has a long tradition of working for peace – a tradition the Palme Center continues. The world stands at a crossroads. Humanity faces serious global risks, including armed conflict, climate crisis and pandemics. The choice is between a future shaped by confrontation and instability, or one based on peace, cooperation and common security.
At the same time, the international system is under pressure. Multilateral institutions and shared rules are being challenged, while conflicts and violations of international law continue to affect people around the world.
What we do:
- We support civil society organisations in conflict-affected contexts in their work for peace and conflict resolution. We strengthen their capacity to manage conflicts without violence, through dialogue, mediation and community-based approaches.
- We build cross-border partnerships for peace and dialogue, based on inclusion, reciprocity and openness, in line with the principles of common security.
- We engage the Swedish labour movement through knowledge-sharing, advocacy and networking, to promote disarmament and common security.
- We raise awareness of ongoing conflicts and their consequences, including in Ukraine, Myanmar and Palestine.
