Organising and building alliances

No organisation can achieve lasting and fundamental changes on its own. We therefore bring together different groups in strategic alliances to achieve shared goals. Building alliances is one of the Palme Center’s most effective ways to create lasting change.

We support civil society organisations, trade unions and progressive parties to grow stronger and work together:

Civil participation

Organised people are the foundation of democratic change – especially for marginalised groups. We support workers, women, and other discriminated groups to form and strengthen their organisations.

Knowledge is a key part of this. When people understand their rights, they are better able to claim them. When organisations strengthen their leadership and internal democracy, they become more effective. That is why popular education is central to our work.

Trade union organising

Free, democratic and strong trade unions are essential for fair working conditions and respect for human rights.

We support our trade union partners to strengthen their internal democracy, advocacy and cooperation with political actors. Together, we work for decent work, gender equality and a just climate transition. We also support new forms of organising in an increasingly informal labour market.

Political party organisation

Strong and democratic political parties are essential for a functioning democracy. Parties must be built on organisations – not individuals.

We support progressive political parties and movements to strengthen their organisation and internal democracy. We focus in particular on increasing the participation of young people, women and marginalised groups. Together, we contribute to progressive policy and political development.
