HOW WE WORK
Movement to movement – equal partnerships
The Palme Center works with civil society organisations, trade unions and progressive parties and movements in over 30 countries. Together, we share a vision of a peaceful and democratic world where human rights are respected, opportunities are equal, and development takes place within the planet’s limits.Today’s challenges are global – and so must be the solutions. We are part of the international labour movement, built on the belief that change happens when people come together in organisations.
Our 26 member organisations are part of the Swedish labour movement. For more than 100 years, this movement has contributed to building democracy and reducing poverty in Sweden. We build on this experience in our work with around 190 partner organisations worldwide.
Partnership is at the core of how we work. Our partners best understand their own contexts and priorities. We work together as equals – learning from each other and addressing shared challenges.
This is how we change the world
We support our partner organisations to grow stronger and work together. Through popular education we equip their leaders and members with the tools they need to make their voices heard. Through advocacy in Sweden and globally, we defend the democratic space and promote progressive change. To sustain this work in the long term, we actively raise funds from institutions, member organisations and private individuals.ORGANISING & BUILDING ALLIANCES
Change happens when people organise – in trade unions, political parties and social movements – and when these actors join forces to raise their voices together.
ADVOCATING & SHARING EXPERTISE
Together with our partners and allies Palme Center works as a counterforce – defending democratic space and promoting progressive change.
MOBILIZING RESOURCES
A core part of our work is to strengthen organisations and build movements. This requires long-term partnerships supported by stable and reliable funding.
